West Town is located northwest of the Loop. Much of West Town was historically part of the city’s Polish Downtown. Its name may refer to Western Avenue, which was the city’s western boundary at the time of West Town’s settlement. The West town neighborhood community thrives on the charm created by the diverse and tight knit vibe of the area. Neighborhoods within West Town include: East Village, Eckhart Park, Humboldt Park, Noble Square, River West, Smith Park, Ukrainian Village, Wicker Park, the Division Street corridor, and the Grand Avenue Design District.

Situated on Chicago’s northwest side, West Town is bordered by the Chicago River to the east, the Union Pacific railroad tracks to the south, the former railroad tracks on Bloomingdale Avenue to the north, and Humboldt Park to the west. I-90 passes through West Town and the CTA Blue Line has four stops in the area.
If you are interested in exploring some culture, both the Polish Museum of America and the Ukrainian National Museum are located in West Town. You can learn all about Poland and Ukraine’s history at these historical museums. The Chopin Theatre is an independent, for-profit arts center located across the Polish Triangle in the Wicker Park area of West Town. The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art is located just off of Chicago and Western Ave. The Institute of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture is located in Humboldt Park.
West Town is home to so many Chicago Public Schools including Andersen Community Academy, Burr Elementary School, Carpenter Elementary School, Chicago International Charter School, Chopin Elementary School, Columbus School, Drummond Magnet School, Erie Charter School, and many more. One of the highest rated schools is Mitchell Elementary School. The College of Office Technology and Kendall College are also both located in West Town.
